after sutton showered, she thought about taylor and how easily she could talk to him, how easily he understood everything about her without any judgements. she smiled to herself as she quickly put a new bandage on her knee, pulled on a pair of black boot cut slacks and quickly put up her hair. she pulled on a dark navy tight short sleeved shirt. sutton then quickly balled up her clothes and rushed out of the bathroom so taylor could take his shower. as she was in her room her daydreaming continued as she slowly brushed off her shirt and flattened out the creases, and then walked over to her closet where she pulled on a pair of chunky black boots. while she sat momentarily on her floor she wondered why her relationship with taylor was so different now than it had been half a year ago when they saw each other practically everyday. “i’m not that different now, i don’t think,” she thought to herself as she absent mindedly pulled down her dirty blonde hair that was slightly damp and slightly curling, and then back up in a tighter bun. “aside from the fact that my parents are in a foreign country and i am living with a family that includes three brothers who are about to start a world tour and are the most popular teenage boy group around right now,” she said aloud and laughed. “no, i’m not the least bit different,” she rolled her eyes as she stood and spritzed herself a few times with pleasures perfume and put on a silver necklace. she sighed sluggishly into the mirror, and then quickly finished her morning routine. she swiped tan colored eyeshadow over her eyelids and light lip gloss over her lips and fell back onto her bed. her thoughts drifted back to taylor and she looked towards her bedroom door as she heard the water still running in the bathroom down the hall, and how they had looked at each other the night they bumped into each other in the hallway before dinner. “why am i so confused so suddenly?” she asked herself as she brought her hands up to her face and moaned. her puzzlement was soon replaced by a smile as she remembered how taylor had looked at her, the faint smile that appeared on his face as he steadied her. how he always asked her opinion and saw how she felt about things. how caring, concerned he was when she injured her knee and scratched her arms and legs. back in his own room, taylor quickly dressed in dark gray baggy pants and a long sleeved black shirt, and sat on isaac’s bottom bunk as he tied up his black doc martens. “what are you getting so dressed up for?” zac looked at him, amused, as he looked into their closet for something to wear before he took his shower. “i’m not dressed up,” taylor defended himself. “yes you are! oh that’s right...” zac turned around and shook his forefinger at taylor. “today is sutton saturday, isn’t it?” he grinned mischievously. “so? what’s that supposed to mean?” he stood and brushed his damp hair and tucked it behind his ears as he slightly smiled. “nothing. what are you guys planning on doing today?” zac asked as he gave up his search for clean clothes. “i don’t quite know yet.” taylor lied, and stuck his wallet in his back pocket and looked to zac. zac probably would have either wanted to go with them to six flags, or thought his idea to take sutton there was completely ridiclous. “have any ideas, oh wise one?” “nope, no, have a good time though,” zac smirked and walked out of the room. halfway down the hall, he heard zac say, “hey, looking good sutt.” taylor quickly hovered near his bedroom door to hear their conversation. sutton put her arm around his neck and squeezed his shoulders and ruffled his hair. “quit it, you. where’s your brother?” zac nodded his head towards their bedroom door and sutton patted him on the back as he made his way down the stairs. she slowly wandered a couple feet down the hallway and peaked her head in the doorway. “hey,” she grinned and rolled her eyes as taylor looked up to her with a bundle of laundry in his arms. “what’s up with your brother?” she leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed in front of her chest. “which one?” he laughed as he brushed past her at to the laundry room across the hall. sutton breathed in his scent and replied, “zac. he’s a tad bit crazy.” taylor laughed and said, “i thought you would have noticed that by now,” and stuck his hands out of his back pockets and re-entered his room as sutton sat down at his keyboard. “i DID, tay-lor.” she looked at him as he sat next to her on the small piano bench and touched the long white keys. “okay, sut-ton,” taylor emphasized the last syllable of her name and grinned and reached beyond her to turn on the instrument. “when are you going to play for me?” sutton asked as she and taylor immediately began playing “heart and soul” together, taylor taking the lead and sutton following with the one fingered melody. they smiled and taylor looked at her; continued playing. “whenever you want me to,” he looked back at her for a second and back at the keys as sutton stumbled and laughed. “come on, sutt! this is like, the easiest song to play.” “i know, you’re making me nervous though. you’ve always been a better musician than i.” she nudged his arm with her elbow and caused him to play the wrong chord, and then stopped playing altogether. “but you’re a singer, too. that’s really important.” sutton shrugged and smiled as she looked at her fingers atop the worn keys as taylor studied her profile, wondering what it was about her that made him feel so many new feelings and so wonderful inside just from being near her. she began playing “lean on me” and blushed as taylor began singing. she looked at him, surprised. “i am a singer, too, yanno.” “i haven’t heard you sing in so long though, it seems. like, in person. i always loved your voice,” she smiled and finally stopped playing and switched off his keyboard. “are you gonna sing for me, too? if i play for you?” taylor asked as she slid off the bench and he followed her out of his room and down the stairs as he put his hands on her shoulders. “no, no. i don’t think so,” she blushed as taylor moved beside her and they reached the bottom of the stairs. “alright, you don’t have to if you don’t want to.” “you still gonna play for me?” she asked. taylor scrunched up his nose and replied, “i suppose so,” as he led her to the den and closed the large double doors behind them. he swiftly walked over to their black grand piano and opened up all the way and pulled out the bench as sutton faced him and leaned against the black panels of the piano. “come here sutt, sit,” taylor said and patted the bench beside him. he smiled as he continued playing several chords in random secession and a couple major scales. sutton hesitantly sat next to him as their elbows bumped into each other. taylor had began to repeatedly press middle c. “hey, tay!” sutton grinned and slapped his hand. “i’m trying to think of something to play,” he grinned, and then quickly retreated into song. sutton gazed at his profile for a moment and smiled as he bit his lip and played. sutton looked down to his hands hovered over the black and white keys, and followed his fingers as she noticed the song to be “with you in your dreams.” taylor never began singing, but the song seemed to come across just as powerfully as it would had he chose to sing as he played. “if i’m gone when you wake up, please don’t cry. and if i’m gone when you wake up, don’t ask why...” taylor ended the song a few minutes later and slowly removed his foot from the pedals as he looked over to sutton. somehow he sensed of all of their songs or classical pieces he had memorized, that song was the one she would have wanted to have heard, and judging by her facial expressions, he was correct. “wow, taylor,” sutton smiled as she looked at the keys in front of her and rubbed her eyes. “that’s always been your favorite song, hasn’t it?” “yeah,” sutton said softly, and stood. “it seems to kind of have new meaning now. when i hear you play it at different stages in my life and at different times it brings forth new memories, and new meanings. its wonderful how a song you wrote for your grandmother can have so many different meanings for someone like me.” taylor quietly sighed and agreed. “i know. its definitely weird how things like that work. its amazing that other people can be touched by our music as you have, and can relate to our songs. its kind of weird to think about it... but its one of the most gratifying and wonderful experiences for us.” sutton sunk into the deep khaki and navy colored couch as taylor turned around and faced her. “that song makes me think of my parents. its kind of sad, but reassuring.” she said. taylor nodded and smiled, and looked at his watch quickly at back to sutton at the couch. “you’ll all have to play for me soon,” she said and he nodded again. then: “time check?” “almost noon,” taylor laughed. “ah, so you have almost twelve more hours to entertain me.” sutton grinned. “shut up, you know i love spending time with you.” he said and stood. “come on, lets go get something to eat and get out of here.” “where are we going?” sutton asked as she slowly rose from the comfortable couch and followed taylor. “to the kitchen...” sutton pushed him and caused him to stumble into the kitchen as they opened the pantry doors. “i mean after we eat.” she asked as she pulled out peanut butter. “i was thinking we could eat as we walk,” taylor said as he grabbed a couple cans of dr pepper from the refrigerator and the bread as sutton began making them peanut butter sandwiches. “where are we going?” “six flags...” he said cautiously, not wanting her to think his idea was stupid. we can walk there, its not that far. they’re having a special, too,” taylor grinned as he held out one of the cans of pop towards sutton with the coupon deal on the back. “buy one, get one free admission.” “i guess something good comes out of drinking all of that dr pepper,” she grinned and handed him a sandwich. “i haven’t been to six flags in forever, that should be fun. lets go,” she said and put the bread and peanut butter away, and grabbed her pop. “alrighty,” taylor said and lead her down the foyer. he called up the stairs to whoever that was listening that they were leaving, and they stepped outside, sandwiches and pop cans in hand. |
