what's simple is true
[ chapter 13 ]

once inside, sutton immediately found diana and had her help her clean her wounds upstairs as taylor sat down with his brothers in the living room.

“gosh tay, what did you do to her?” zac cried, coming out from the kitchen as he saw sutton slowly climb the stairs.

“nothing, nothing.” he smiled.

“well something surely happened to her,” isaac laughed.

“we were just standing on the swings at the elementary school and she bet that she could jump father than me so of course i had to take her on, and she skidded against a rock that was in her path and landed and scratched up her knee pretty badly.” taylor explained.

“good going. what else did you guys do?” ike asked.

taylor leaned back in the couch and sighed. “we went and played laser quest first, then had lunch at taco bueno, and then we went to the square and in the little amphitheater and heard this awesome pianist for like, an hour. it was so amazing, you guys have to come back with us and see her tomorrow.”

“you and sutton went to a piano concert? woo hoo!” isaac laughed.

“shut up! i do play piano, i do enjoy stuff like that,” taylor rolled his eyes. “i thought you guys would want to come and hear her, too.”

“i’m just kidding, tay. what was she like?” ike asked.

“wait till sutt comes back down, she really liked her a lot too.” taylor said.

“what did you do after that?” zac asked.

“we went to the school and hung out there, talked and played around on the jungle gym.”

“thats it?”

“well what did you expect us to do? we just went out and had fun together,” taylor said.

“yea, yea,” zac said as he heard sutton coming down the stairs, more at east than when he lost saw her. “sutt!!” he called.

“hey,” she said and plopped down on the couch next to him. She’d changed into a long sleeved shirt and black swishie pants. taylor looked at her questioningly.

“i’m fine,” she said. “do you want to see it zac?” she grinned.

“alright,” he laughed.

“i’m just kidding,” she laughed and looked across to taylor and smiled.

“tell them about renese,” he said.

“oh, she was this wonderful pianist we saw at the amphitheater in town. you guys have to come back with us and see her before friday, she was simply amazing. i know you’ll appreciate it.”

“what made her so wonderful?” ike skeptically asked.

“you just have to be there, you have to hear her play and watch her play.” taylor quickly said.

“what kind of stuff did she play?” zac asked.

taylor looked to sutton. “i recognized a lot of bach and some chopin; mozart of course. and a lot of stuff i’ve never heard anywhere before.”

“and she had a quartet string orchestra with her that played on most of the pieces; it sounded so wonderful,” sutton added as diana came out from the kitchen.

“come on guys,” she called them to the table for dinner. sutton rose and walked slowly to the table and sat in her place as she added,

“we went and talked to her after she was done, too.”

“talk to whom?” walker inquired as he began passing around a bread basket.

“sutton and i saw this piano concert at the amphitheater today,” taylor said and everyone began eating.

“her name was renese. she’s from sweden and she’s like 20 or 21 or something, in her second year of college over here. she’s really talented, i want to go back there and have ike and zac hear her, too.” sutton said.

“hmm,” walker said. “not tomorrow. the boys and diana and i have to go to a business lunch with chris.”

“that’s cool, she’ll be here until friday. we can go thursday then.” sutton took a sip of milk. “do you need me to babysit?” she grinned.

“if it wouldn’t be too much trouble,” diana replied.

“nope, of course not,” sutton grinned. “we always have fun together, right jessie? avie?”

they nodded and everyone continued eating.
